Life Lessons for Moms

Every mom feels frustration at some point during motherhood. Whether you’re tired from lack of sleep because your baby’s been up all night every night for a week, or if you’re pulling your hair out over your teen’s latest crazy stunt, you know what that frustration feels like. Unfortunately, despite the large amount of books available for mothers, very few talk about the simple little life lessons every mom should know.

"Some mothers are kissing mothers and some are scolding mothers, but it is love just the same, and most mothers kiss and scold together." ~Pearl S. Buck

There is no such thing as a “perfect” mother.

Lots of new moms feel nervous because they aren’t sure they will be a good mother. While this is normal, you should never think that there is some level of perfection to be reached as a mother. It’s just not so.

You can’t shield your children from all the bad in this world.

Unfortunately, this is a life lesson that far too many moms struggle to learn. It’s natural to want to protect your children from bad stuff happening to or around them. But it’s just not humanly possible. The truth is, your children are going to grow up and eventually become their own person. The best you can do is instill solid morals in them that will lead them as they grow older.

Your children need a parent AND a friend.

Some mothers don’t know how to be a mother and so, instead, become their children’s friend instead. While your children need a friend, they also need you to be a parent, too. It is important that you learn to balance the two early on, because if not, your children will eventually display a lack of respect, not only towards you, but other adults as well.

You must teach them early, or they’ll never learn.

Far too many parents spoil their children recklessly from birth. It’s okay to give your children nice things and provide their wants, but be careful not to go overboard, else you could pay for it later. It is imperative to begin instilling the morals and virtues in your children that you want them to display as adults. Teaching them early on to be respectful, inquisitive, and positive will ensure they learn such important values as a child and build on them as they grow older.

You only get one chance.

Motherhood tends to get hairy at times. It’s easy to lose your temper or become frustrated. Just remember your children are only little once. You can never turn back the hands of time to change things. Spend as much quality time with your children as possible when they’re young. Enjoy the good times—and bad.

You are the best mother for your children.

Finally, the most important life lesson every mother should understand and accept is that you are the very best mother for your children. There is no other mother in this world who could possibly be a good enough mother to your children. They need you. No matter how inadequate or unsure of yourself you might feel at times, you are the only mother your children need.

We moms tend to strive for perfection in motherhood, however, that is not possible as you so well stated. All we can do is teach our children the moral values in life, and hopefully it will carry them throughout their lives. I cherish the moments I have with my children because they are my reasons for living. Keep up the good work. Great hub!!!!!!!!!

We cannot control everything in our life the way we wish to. The best we can do to try to drive our efforts towards a positive direction for the betterment of ourselves and of all with whom we live in this world.

When we are desperate to get what we wish to and fail we feel frustrated and unhappy.

I like to accept life as it is but with a positive direction.

Thank you for this sweet and thoughtful hub.
