Do you keep a journal? While journaling is a very relaxing form of writing and creating art, it is surprising how many people do not actively keep one. A lot of people shy away from keeping a personal journal because they think it is something they have to be chained to every day. This isn't true. You can journal as often or as little as you choose. Your journal doesn't even have to be a written one--you could keep an art journal. There is an art to journaling that goes beyond writing for many. Likewise, there are countless ways you can use a journal in your life.

Why Journal? - Those who can't see the benefits of journaling often ask what the point is in keeping a journal. There are several benefits of keeping a journal, like keeping a chronological record of your life.

How A Journal Can Help You - There are quite a many different ways a journal can help you. If you are thinking a journal is nothing more than a glorified diary, you are wrong. A journal can be a useful tool in helping you work through problems in your life. It can also provide great stress relief, when you dump your issues on the pages and get it out of your mind.

Topics To Write About In Your Journal - Sometimes one of the things holding you back from starting a journal is not knowing what to write about. Or maybe you have a journal that you started long ago, but have set it aside because you are bored with writing the same old, “Today I…” entries. Keeping a list of journal topics on hand (if you are keeping a written journal) is a great way to make sure you won't meet the blank page with anxiety. Instead, you'll have a list of ideas to get you started right away.

Types of Personal Journals - Some have the idea that a journal is merely a diary, called by a different name. While this does hold true for some, there is an unlimited number of possibilities for journals. You don’t have to stay stuck with the same old boring diary entries. Journals have evolved and taken on different shapes and forms throughout the last several years. From art journals to pregnancy journals, there is no lack of freedom in the type of journal you can keep.

#5 How To Make A Prayer Journal - Prayer journaling has grown somewhat over the last decade or so. Some people find it a great comfort to write prayers in a book and then go back to record dates those prayers were answered. Others simply use a prayer journal as a list of prayer requests, which they use in their daily prayer life. You can do all kinds of things in your prayer journal.

I enjoyed reading your lens! I keep a visual journal and also recorded the last three years without really realizing it or feeling obligated to write in a journal like I used to. I have images of my visual journals on my website, I would love feedback! www.lookbetweenthelines.com

Hi:

I completley agree with you about journaling. I love journaling. Like you've stated, it's very therpeautic; allowing you to write about feelings allowing you to get it out of your head and somewhere else. It's like talking to your best friend without fearing that you will be judged. I started journaling at a really early age and not only is it a great tool for thinking out loud, it documents events that occurs in your life.

Memory does fade with time. Journaling documents that event/feeling while it's strong and fresh in your mind. I started an online journal when I was pregnant with both my children. Journaling allowed me to go back during my 2nd pregnancy and remind me of all the wonderful things or discomforts that happened. I was reminded of all the medical appointments and statistics as well. I've commemorated these magical 9 months without realizing it.

Great lens! May I also suggest the book, "The New Diary" by Tristine Rainier? It's a very helpful guide to personal journaling.
