How To Set Life Goals - Setting Smart Goals
Life goals are goals that affect your life overall. Unlike regular goals, life goals are those that could totally change the way you live, or what you do. Here are some tips for setting your own life goals:
- Look to the future.
- Plan ahead.
- Talk to your family and get their input.
- Reach beyond the norm.
Setting life goals is something that requires a lot of thought. It’s not something you should do in a matter of a few minutes. Life goals should be given much consideration because they are potentially life-altering decisions.
When you get ready to set your life goals, there are some important questions you might ask yourself to uncover your objectives:
1) What do you want? Rather than thinking just about this very moment, think long-term. What would you like your life to look like five years from now? Ten? Twenty? Forty? Can you see yourself that far ahead? Can you imagine what you’d like to be doing? Where you’d like to live? What your family might look like? What type of career you have? You should be able to envision these things, which will help you set your life goals.
2) How will you get there? Now that you’ve envisioned the future, how will you get there from where you are now? Take your career, for example. If you want to become a doctor, you will be required to go through several years of formal education, followed by an intensive, demanding hands-on training. It’s not something that will happen overnight. But you can plan ahead and reach that life goal.
3) What improvements do you want to experience for yourself? You must have the desire to become more than you are now. Your life experience up to this point will provide inspiration for what you want to experience in the future.
