How To Follow Your Heart

69

By Hope Wilbanks

Imagine this scenario: There is something you have always wanted to do, but the opportunity never afforded itself to you. Suddenly, you are given the chance to do that thing, to go for what you have been dreaming of doing. But you’re stuck. You don’t know if you should go for it or not. You waffle, torn between duties expected of you, and your inner dream and desires that you’ve held for so long. What do you do?

Unfortunately, many people in such situations turn away from the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to fulfill duties, rather than seeking to follow after their ultimate dreams. Is that the choice you would make as well?

"If you don't know where you are going, you will probably end up somewhere else." ~Lawrence J. Peter
"If you don't know where you are going, you will probably end up somewhere else." ~Lawrence J. Peter

If you have wanted something literally your entire life and you finally have the opportunity within your grasp to attain it, don’t walk away from it. Far too many sell themselves short and think their time has passed. It is never too late to go for your dreams.

Listen to your inner voice.

Another common occurrence is ignoring that inner voice that suggests actionable steps to take towards your dreams. If you hear that inner intuition nudging you to do something that might not necessarily be within your comfort zone, go for it anyway. You never know if you will succeed at something unless you just take the plunge and try it anyway.

Be confident and know that you CAN do it.

Often, confidence is what either prevents a person from following their heart or turning and walking away from their dreams. Don’t be the person that walks away and regrets it the rest of your life. Confidence in yourself will carry you to the ultimate peaks of success. Believe in yourself and know that you hold the power within yourself to accomplish whatever your heart desires.

Hi,

What a great post, thank you for adding this because it's so essential that we do follow our hearts. I would love to add also, there are ways that you can go about following your heart.

We were all born with the faculty of being what's called 'kinesthetic' and over time we can become more visual, auditory, or audio digital. The audio digital can definitely get in the way of following or listening to our heart, but there are ways that you can get out of your head and into the heart so that you can be more guided.

One is to do what's called 'heart breathing' where your brain and heart waves go into synchrony. Very powerful process even though it's so simple, and it helps to bring more awareness to your heart throughout the day.

The more you become aware of your heart in your actions, and the more you follow it, the easier it becomes to listen to it's guidance, because it's a practice that grows.

Also releasing limiting beliefs help get you out of the head once again, and back into the heart where all universal guidance belongs.

I used some of these tools to discover the woman of my dreams and follow a path to discovering my purpose and so I love sharing it with others too.

Thank you again, so great to see posts like this out there!

All the best,

Dieter Aschenbrenner

I just came back to reread your hub and your last sentence really struck me. It is so true, often it is just our own confidence which stands between us and the life we dream of.

For me, confidence comes through my connection with nature and our world. Understanding that we are all apart of the cosmos tends to take the 'individual' responsibility off me and out into the world.

Thanks again for a great hub.

Thank you, this is exactly what I was hoping to find today and all I did was type in "follow your heart" on my search. I find myself at a crossroads of following my education in art like I want or settling down and "being sensible." Thanks for the comfort.

We live in a society who have collectively forgotten what it means to live. Working the 9 to 5 and sacrificing life experiences for the sake of financial wealth is a tragedy. Life is to be experienced, we need to listen to the guidance in our heart - we need to follow our hearts!

Thanks for such a lovely article.

Peace and much love

We would acxheive what we dream of far more often if we would practice saying YES to opportunities.

I regret the number of times I have said NO, out of fear. YES, works much better :)
