Have you tried just about everything imaginable to lose weight? Maybe you have followed several of the latest trends in dieting and weight loss, but you still haven’t found just the thing to aid you in successful weight loss. Chewing gum is a perfect solution.

Chewing a slice of sugar-free chewing gum, instead of binging on junk food, can drastically reduce your caloric intake each day.
Chewing a slice of sugar-free chewing gum, instead of binging on junk food, can drastically reduce your caloric intake each day.

Chewing gum tricks your brain into thinking it’s getting something to eat.

When dieting or trying to lose a few extra pounds, one of the hardest things you usually face is the constant craving for something to eat. Whether you are hungry or not, when you train yourself to habitually eat throughout the entire course of a day, it’s difficult to break that cycle.

Chewing a piece of sugar free chewing gum can aid in helping you transition from eating all day long to limiting yourself to a smaller number of meals each day. By simply chewing a piece of sugar free gum, you’ll be able to trick your brain into thinking it’s getting something to eat, and instead save yourself a lot of calories every day.

Chewing gum can help reduce your stress.

A lot of people blame stress as the reason why they can’t lose weight. If this has been your excuse, then stop using it. Rather than going for that high-fat junk food snack when your stress levels are high, pop a piece of gum in your mouth instead.

Chewing gum can save you a lot of unnecessary calories every day.

So many times, the reason for your weight gain might be because you consume more calories every day than you think you do. If this is the case, then chewing sugar free gum can help you eliminate those unnecessary calories, thus setting you up for greater weight loss in the long run. Chew a piece of sugar free gum instead of eating:

  • chocolate candy bar
  • potato chips
  • fast food meal

Absolutely! Unfortunately for me, I can't chew gum anymore. :( The dentist told me no more gum because my TMD has grown incredibly worse over the last few years. But chewing sugar free gum is a great substitute for snacks!

I'm going to try this - do you think it also works instead of an evening snack before bed?

Nice ideas and great support for weight loss with your Hub. Thanks for sharing it! I am beginning to think that significant weight loss problems in America is all about addictive behavior. What do you think? Feel free to see how I try to help others in new ways. Sincerely: Gary Eby, author and therapist.

Me too, Jenn. :) I've also used Blow Pops, too, because of the gum inside. :)

Great hub, Hope! I did this when I was trying to lose weight after my pregnancies and it worked like a charm. Each time I was craving something I knew wouldn't be good for my diet, I chewed bubble gum - I like blowing bubbles a lot. :-)
